| The Relay for Life at Concord University will be held March 29 from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. at the football stadium. The event is an awarness and fundraising event to help raise money for cancer research. Concord has been hosting it's own relay for the past five years. There will be a variety of activities for all ages, music, food, and an opportunity to fellowship with fellow survivors and families of those that have lost someone to the battle. Relay is a special time of bonding together and shouting with one voice that we will not stand idley by while this disease continues to take those closest to us. There is almost no one alive today that hasn't been touched either directly or indirectly by this horrible disease. The Athens Volunteer Fire Department has been involved for the past four years raising money and being on hand at each event to assist with the activities and provide support if necessary. The evening also has a very sentimental ending as the Luminaria ceremony begins. At sunset, there will be a keynote speaker and the lighting of the luminaria's around the track. Each bag has a name, and a story. This is often a time to reflect and possible remember the loved ones we have let go. It is also a time for those that are survivors or are fighting the fight to gain strength, knowing that the candle's flame represents their spirit, and that it shines brightly with all those around it. Join us for a special day! |
