The Hoosier Award is a symbol of idiocy, stupidity, and the ability of one person to make a complete "jack-ass" of themselves. The Hoosier had a long road that preceded it starting with "The Marvin Award." The Marvin award was named after an infamous AVFD member back in the dark ages sometime before most of us were even born. The recipients of this award were people who did those simple dumb-ass things that no one would soon forget. About 8 years ago, when the phrase "here's your sign" became famous our award assumed a new name. Here's your sign quickly faded and luck for the fire department a new member came around during that time. Lannie Hoosier was quite possibly the most gung ho and excited little person when it came to fighting fire. He was a miniature Martinez with his technical jargon and his depth of useless knowledge. Another great thing about Mr. Hoosier is his ability to complicate even the smallest of issues. For example...lets suppose a beautiful model around the age of 20'ish comes walking across the road and the first words out of her mouth are, "I am interested in your LDH." The last thing that should come out of a single, "straight" males mouth is..."I ain't got no hose." The rest was history that night. But the thing that catapulted Mr. Hoosier to leave his legacy as the "father" of our screw-up award was a bright sunny afternoon when he decided to do some work in the box on Service 7. One sharp gust of wind and that was all she wrote. Lannie was trapped in the back compartment of Service 7. Lucky for him someone came by the station and let out the person that was banging on the door screaming...hey, hey, can anybody here me...let me out of here. So thanks to Mr. Lannie Hoosier we have a model of stupid acts that we judge each member by. Many have measured up to a standard or two but no one will ever take the place of our famed Hoosier! |
